Les Diaboliques (France; 90 min) 50th anniversary release of Clouzot's classic film noir, starring Simone Signoret. Dark study of a wife and mistress of a sadistic boarding school headmaster who join forces to kill him, only to have the body disappear. Don't fall in the swimming pool. Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (USA; 110 min) A searing examination of the Enron accounting scandal which reveals the psychology of greed and corruption that led to the company's rise and fall and traces its links to the California power blackouts. Hard Work (Maine; 59 min) A surprisingly relevant documentary about the lives of Maine women factory workers in the late 1800s, speaking to today's wage gap and other concerns. (Saturday, 11:30 a.m., Room 314/315) Followed by a discussion with the filmmaker.

Heavy Metal (Quebec; 48 min) A documentary about the effects of mining pollution coupled with bureaucratic indifference on Cree Indians in Northern Quebec. (Saturday, 2:50 p.m., Sweeney Hall. Sponsored by Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum). Followed by a discussion with the filmmaker.

Hill 16 (Ireland; 124 min.) A coming of age story of a Dublin teen's obsession with a local teacher and her msyterious affair with his cousin. (Friday, 1:45, Green Room) Winner of the Best International Feature Film Award at the Tromafling Independent Film Festival in Edinburgh, 2005.

Kiss Me Deadly (USA; 106 min) Another 50th anniversary classic. Written by A.I. Bezzerides, based on a Micky Spillane mystery, directed by Robert Aldrich. A doomed female hitchhiker pulls Mike Hammer into a deadly whirlpool of intrigue. (Saturday, 11:45 a.m., Sweeney Hall)

The Long Haul of A.I. Bezzerides (USA; 52 min) The story of a former Hollywood pulp writer with a day job as a long-haul trucker. (Saturday, 10:30 a.m., Sweeney Hall-followed by a discussion with the filmmaker)

Penobscot Basket Maker (Maine; 59 min) The life story of Barbara Francis, a Native American basket maker from Indian Island, Maine. (Saturday, 1:45 p.m., Sweeney Hall. Sponsored by Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum) Followed by a discussion and demonstration with Barbara Francis and 2 other basket makers. Nominated for an Emmy.

When Zachary Beaver Came to Town (USA; 90 min) Zachary Beaver, the fattest boy in the world, comes to town and changes the lives of everyone in Granger, Texas, especially the life of 13-year old Toby Wilson.
